Etowah County, originally Blaine County, was created by an act of the state general assembly on 1 December 1868. Blaine County was created by the general assembly on 7 December 1866 and abolished on 3 December 1867. The parent counties of Etowah (Blaine County) are Blount, Calhoun. Cherokee, DeKalb, Marshal and St. Clair. Gadsden is the county seat.
