The parish of St. Michael Catholic Church began with a petition signed by many Catholics in North Toledo. The petition showed the need for the establishment of a new parish in this section of the city. The bishop of the Diocese finally acted upon it in June of 1900 and St. Michael Catholic Church was officially organized in the summer of 1900. The parish completed their first church building in 1901. The parish's first priest was Reverend William A. Harks. On April 11, 1939, a fire severally damaged the church-school building. It was renovated, but the parish began building a new church in 1939. It was completed in December of 1940.
