St. John the Baptist Catholic Church began as a station of Antwerp in 1873. In 1883, the parish built their first church. With the completion of the church, St. John the Baptist became a mission of Antwerp. In 1892, the parish of St. John received their first resident pastor. In this same year the parish was assigned the missions of Latty and Paulding. The priests of Payne served both of these missions until 1901. In 1904, their small frame church was replaced by a larger brick church that is still in use by the parish. Currently St. John the Baptist Catholic Church is a sister parish of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulding, Ohio.
