James Blair was born 1 July 1793 in Augusta County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Johnson Conavey (1815-1903) 1 September 1829. They moved in 1832/1833 to Ross County, Ohio, and in 1848 to Linn County, Iowa. They had eight children. James died in 1849 in Palo, Iowa. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Washington, California and elsewhere.

Includes Clark, Eaton, Gardner, Hartman, Luther, Moyer, Sheets, Shrimper, Venezia and related families.
