For these cases the courts sat in chancery which meant it acted as a court of equity. Equity law is a body of legal and procedural rules and doctrines which supplement or override common and statute law to protect rights and enforce duties defined or fixed by substantive law. The courts usually dealt with cases which did not need a jury, such as divorces or foreclosures. Orders are judgments based on those laws.
Chancery court rule docket gives the case name, name(s) of attorney(s), type of case, dates and explanations of actions taken and orders given by the court.
Includes general index. General index is divided into 4 sections: 1) Index to the body of this book in dictionary order, including guide lists of files to papers on file that are herein indexed under Kilgore's ledgerizing index and reference system to court records and files (indexes second section); 2) second section of Kilgore's revised ledgerized general index key book - to chancery court files, orders and decrees (indexes standing file number of chancery causes in third section); 3) third section of Kilgore's revised ledgerized general index book - to chancery court files, orders and decrees (indexes fourth section of this index); and 4) fourth section of Kilgore's ledgerized general index key to files in chancery court causes, and to chancery court order books, Apr. 1856-Dec. 1903 (indexes rule dockets, v. 1-3, and order books, v. 1-10).
