Essex Beville was born in Huntingdonshire, England. His parents were John Beville and Mary Clement. He had emigrated by 1663 and was living in Henrico County, Virginia. He married Amy Butler and they had five children. Ancestry in England is traced to William de Beville prior to 1066. Descendants in the United States lived mainly in Virginia.

Includes Bowerman, Hoo, Carew, Saunders, Lacy, Wimberly, Archer, Eppes and related families.
