FamilySearch Indexing

Get started with the new indexing program! Each time you want to index go to the "Web Indexing" page where you can find a project and index online.

Desktop Indexing Program

Indexing is the process of entering information from historical records into an online, searchable database.


Web Indexing

To get started, follow these steps:
  1. Go to the Web Indexing page
  2. If you are not already signed in, sign in with your Church or FamilySearch Account.
  3. To find a project that interests you, click Find Batches, and then click Index.

Projects labeled with this icon are only available in the web indexing program.

Desktop Indexing Program

We encourage new users to get started with the "Web Indexing" program. The desktop application can be downloaded and used, although it will be phased out at a future date.

  1. Download the indexing program.
  2. Click Run or Open to begin the installation.
  3. Locate the FamilySearch Indexing icon on your desktop, and double click the icon to open the program.
  4. Click Register for a New Account and follow the steps to get registered or sign in with your FamilySearch or Church Account
