1. What do I need to use Family Name Assist?
   Before meeting with the member, invite the member to think of a deceased grandparent, parent, spouse, sibling, or child, preferably of the same sex. They should be prepared to provide the name, birth or death date, and birth or death place to qualify the name for the temple. While it is best to have accurate information, it is acceptable to enter approximations, such as just a year and the name of a the country.
   
   If a member does not have a family name in mind, then Family Name Assist will provide an option to automatically find available names in FamilySearch.
2. What is the purpose of Family Name Assist?
   Family Name Assist is an automated, simplified experience that guides leaders to help a member easily prepare names for a temple baptistry experience.
3. Why should I use Family Name Assist?
   Family Name Assist helps a member to get a name for the temple within minutes without requiring complicated family history research. Members can focus on feeling the spirit of the temple, increasing their faith, and serving their deceased family. Later, as they grow in the gospel, they can learn more about family history and continue a pattern of temple worship.
4. Who can access Family Name Assist?
   • Bishopric members, branch presidents, ward clerks, and executive secretaries can access it in Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR), in the section where proxy baptism recommends are issued.
   • Members of the ward council, their presidency members, and temple and family history consultants can also access it in LCR. On the top navigation menu, select Temple, and then select Help Members Print a Family Name.
   • Family members, ministering brothers and sisters, and friends can also help the member access this experience from Family Name Assist for Helpers.
5. How do I prepare before using Family Name Assist?

   If a member does not have a family name in mind, then Family Name Assist will provide an option to automatically find available names in FamilySearch.
6. What happens if the member does not have a FamilySearch account?
   If you start from Leader and Clerk Resources (LCR), FamilySearch will automatically create an account for the member or access their existing FamilySearch account. Family Name Assist also provides instructions to help the member add a username and password to access a newly created account.
7. What happens to information entered into Family Name Assist?
   The family names and relationships will be saved in the member’s tree on FamilySearch. Members can access the information in Family Tree on FamilySearch.
8. Will submitting names through Family Name Assist show up on the Family History Activity Report (FHAR)?
   Yes, when you help a member to print names using Family Name Assist, that member will be counted as a submitter on the Family History Activity Report (FHAR). This report is generated monthly, in the middle of the month. New submitters do not appear on the report immediately but rather on the next month’s report.
