John Melson came to Virginia ca. 1665 and married Elizabeth Painter in 1672 in Somerset County, Maryland. Their children were born in Accomack County, Virginia. Also includes family of Lewis B. Welch who was in Columbiana County, Ohio in 1820. Information on other Melson families is also given. Includes family of Peter Gordy who was born ca. 1710 and lived in Somerset County, Maryland. Descendants of Melson family lived in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Missouri, Oregon, Georgia, Texas, Washington, and elsewhere.

Includes Welch, Hare, Burk, Melton, Long, Wilson, Gibson, Gordy, West, and related families.
