Contains genealogical correspondence, copies from printed works, pedigree charts, an family sketch, notes, a copy of the will of Dudley Stephens, etc.
Includes the following applications for membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution: Mrs. Annie Craven Stevens, 1909, daughter of Owen Craven (b. 1817) and a descendant of William Cornell (1722-1783), a Revolutionary soldier who was born on Long Island and died in Bucks County, Pennsylvania -- Mrs. Edith Stephens Baxter, 1966, daughter of Ulysses S. G. Stephens (1865-1939) and a descendant of Dudley Stephens (ca. 1760-1829) a soldier in the Henry County Milita -- Elizabeth Fitzgerald Ahlering, daughter of Nellgena Schnee Fitzgerald (b. 1884), and a descendant of Joshua Stephens (1733-1823), who was born in Berkes County, Pennsylvania, and died at Hardin, Shelby County, Ohio, and served as a private in the Revolutionary War -- Frances Barnett Leach, daughter of Millie Cabbage Barnett (1869-1934) and a descendant of Dudley Stephens.
Dudley Stephens was the son of John Stephens (1722-1788) who was born in Rockingham County, North Carolina. Dudley Stephens was born ca. 1760, probably in Rickinham County, North Carolina. He served in the Revolutionary War with the Henry County, Virginia, Militia. He married ca. 1786, Nancy Cornell, daughter of William Cornell a Revolutionary soldier. They had at least five children. The family migrated to Tennesse, ca. 1808 and then to Adair County, Kentucky, where he died in 1829.
