Samuel, Thomas and John James were probably brothers. Samuel was born ca. 1715 probably in Virginia where he married ca. 1740 Mildred. He in in Orange County, Virginia, as early as 1753 and he died ca. 1755 as his will was probated that year. His wife's will was probated in 1803. John James was born ca. 1725 probably in Virginia. He lived in Culpeper County until after 1761. In 1780 he was living with his family in Montgomery (now Smyth) County. He may have died between 1790 and 1793.
James Montgomery was born ca. 1690 in Ireland and came to Pennsylvania ca. 1733. He, his wife Anne, and his family moved in 1746 to Augusta (now Botetourt) County, Virginia. He died in 1756.
Related families were Huston, Alcorn, Crank, Emmerson, Knowles, Yocum, Ranard, and many others. Descendants lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois, and elsewhere.
