Microfilm of originals and typescript at the Franklin County courthouse in Benton, Illinois.

The county recorder kept land records until 1849 when the office was abolished by the state constitution. The clerk of the circuit court kept the records from 1849-1874. The new state constitution restored the office of recorder for counties over 60,000 population. Franklin County did not qualify and the clerk of the circuit court continued to keep land records.
