Franklin Edward Mathes (1874-1951), the son of Samuel Swinford Mathes and Susan Abigail Ticknor, was born in Rice Co., Kansas, and died in Ellis Co., Kansas. He married Luella Mary Day (1877-1959) 1893 in Lyons, Rice Co., Kansas. She was born in Osceola, Clarke Co., Iowa. Franklin's parents were born in Indiana and Illinois. The early Mathes ancestor, James Mathes, Sr. (1737-aft. 1803), son of Alexander Mathes (Mathews) originally of Antrim, Ireland and later in Virginia and his wife Grizzel, was born probably in Chester Co., Pa. He married Sarah Netherton (b. 1738), daughter of Henry Netherton II Virginia, in 1758 in Augusta Co., Va. He died in Jefferson Co., Kentucky. The immigrant Ticknor ancestor, William Ticknor (ca. 1633-aft. 1695), was born probably in Tenterden, Kent Co., England. He married in Scituate, Mass. Hannah Stockbridge (1637-1665), daughter of John Stockbridge and Ann Kendall of Rayleigh, Co. Essex, England. Luella Mary Day (1877-1959) was the daughter of William Husted Day and Margaret Frances Stephenson of Clay Co., Ind. and Monroe Co., Iowa. Includes Tilden, Saxton, Denison etc. families originally of England. Family members live in Kansas, Iowa, Colorado, Illinois and.
