John McCraken was born ca. 1755 in North Carolina. He and his wife, Elizabeth Wood, had twelve children, 1787-ca. 1818, in Maryland, Kentucky, and Indiana. He died after 1830 in Daviess County, Indiana. Descendants lived in Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Kansas, and elsewhere.

Includes the McGhee, Allison, Cosby, Chandler, Lannan, Norris, Wise, and other related families.
