Ancestors, descendants, and relatives of Finney Elbin and Lula O'Dell Crites Cunningham, the author's maternal grandparents. Finney Elbin Cunningham was born in Jackson County, West Virginia, the son of William D. Cunningham (1802-1885) and Sarah A. Fowler Cunningham (ca. 1805-1880). He married Lula O'Dell Crites in 1896. They had eight children, 1896-1914. He died in Jackson County in 1959. Lula O'Dell Crites (1873-1954), daughter of William Harper Crites (1846- 1925) and Barbara Ellen Price Crites (1841-1928), was born and died in Jackson County, West Virginia. Descendants and relatives lived in West Virginia and elsewhere.

Ancestors include: William H. Cunningham (1778-1858) of Jackson County, West Virginia; Philip Creutz (Crites) (b. ca. 1712) of Germany and West Virginia; Isaiah Harrison (1666-1738) of England and Long Island, New York; Azariah Casto (fl. 1717) of New Jersey; Peter Fisher (fl. 1770) of Pennsylvania and Virginia; James Fowler (ca. 1750-ca. 1820) of Harrison County, Virginia; Samuel Price (b. ca. 1710) of Wales and Augusta County, Virginia; and Jacob Wolfe (1755-1823) of Lewis County, West Virginia.
