Chiefly the biography and personal history of Revered John B. McFerrin, D.D., (1807-1887). Rev. McFerrin was born in Rutherford County, Tennessee on 15 June 1807. Born of Irish descent, John was the son of James and Jane Campbell Berry McFerrin and grandson of William McFerrin and Jane Laughlin of York Co., Penn. and Augusta Co., Va. On 18 September 1833 John married Almyra Avery Probart in Nashville, Tennessee. He became a renowned Methodist minister in Tennessee and the south. Almyra Probart McFerrin died " ... while her husband was attending the session of the General Conference in Columbus,Georgia, in May, 1854. ... [John] was again married to Miss McGavock, a member of the family of McGavocks so well known in Virginia and Middle Tennessee."--P. 446. The marriage of Rev. John B. McFerrin to Miss Cynthia Tennessee McGavock, daughter of John McGavock, took place on 12 November 1855 in Nashville, Tennessee. He died 10 May 1887 in Nashville, Tennessee. Descendants and relatives lived in Tennessee, Kentucky and elsewhere.
