Robert McFarland Jr. (1705-1799) was born in County Down, Ireland, a son of Robert McFarland Sr. (b.1675) and of Scottish and Welsh ancestry. Robert Jr. immigrated to Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, later moved to Rockbridge County, Virginia, and married twice. Nelson Phares Dunlap (d.1849) married Mahala McFarland in 1831. Descendants and relatives lived in Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and elsewhere.
