Robert Sumner (ca.1716-1777), a Quaker, married Phebe (Beals) Canaday, widow of Charles Canaday (Canada, Kennedy, Kanaday), in Waterford, Waterford, Fairfax County, Virginia, and moved to Stokes County, North Carolina. Descendants lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Oregon, California, Arizona and elsewhere. Includes ancestors in England, France and elsewhere to about 1554.
