What gets copied from my private tree to a family group tree?

Share

When you copy a person's profile from your private tree to a family group tree, most of the information is copied, including:

  • Vitals (name, sex, birth, christening, death, burial)
  • Alternate names
  • Events
  • Facts
  • Brief life history
  • Sources
  • Notes
  • Discussions

Relationships

If you copy a person and also a spouse, child, father, mother, the relationship between the two people is also copied, along with the information attached to that relationship:

  • For couple relationships, the marriage events, notes, and sources are copied.
  • For parent-child relationships, the relationship type, notes, and sources are copied.

Other relationships are also copied if you copy both people into the family group tree. This information includes the type of relationship, notes, and sources.

Change history and reason statements

The change history and reason statements are not copied.

Memories

If the profile being copied has memories, the copy of the profile added to a family group tree uses the same ones. The copy process does not make copies of the memories.

Instead, the copy process adds new tags to the memory. The new tags connect the memory to the copy of the profile in family group tree.

This tag creation occurs when the memory's visibility is set either to public or to limited access for the same family group where the copy was made.

In short, the following types of memories do not appear on the copied profile:

  • Private memories
  • Memories with limited visibility for a different group
