What is Research Help in Family Tree?

In Family Tree, Research Help identifies possible ways to improve a person's profile. All research helps display in Family Tree on the FamilySearch website. The mobile app displays some of them.

Types of research help

  • Possible duplicates: Other records in Family Tree that could be about this same person.
  • Record hints: Suggested sources for the person. The hints come from FamilySearch Historical Records.
  • Research suggestions: Suggestions of ways you can improve the person's profile.
  • Data problems: Conflicts or errors in data, such as a death date before a birth date, or a child born before a parent.

Where to see research help

On the FamilySearch website, research helps appear in the following places:

  • All of the Tree Views have options. Choose which research helps you see on profile pages.
  • On the person page, the research helps are in the top right of the page. To see all Research Help items, click Details. You also see dismissed items.

The Family Tree mobile app displays possible duplicates and record hints. It does not display data problems or research suggestions.
Family Tree Lite does not display research help.
