The FamilySearch Blog had a busy year in 2023—we published nearly 200 genealogy articles in English and hundreds more in other languages! We covered various topics, including weekly new records, the ever-growing RootsTech conference, and heritage topics such as recipes, history, and more.

      FamilySearch is always busy digitizing new records and helping to make records from all over the world more searchable. “Montana Digitizing in Acceleration Mode” highlights one example of the incredible volunteers FamilySearch has the opportunity to work with.

      Collections added included millions of U.S. draft registration cards and WWII draft records. New historical records were also added from Argentina, Australia, Chile, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, Ukraine, and Venezuela.
      October 13, 2023
      Sri Lanka led out in this record update with 700,000 new records added, followed by El Salvador, the United States, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Czech Republic, and Guadeloupe. Other countries with record expansions included Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ireland, Mexico, Peru, and Zimbabwe.

      Significant numbers of records were added from France (Manche Parish), Argentina, the Czech Republic, South Africa, and the United States. Also from Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ireland, Mexico, Palistine, Peru, Uruguary, and more.

      FamilySearch’s 2023 Genealogist Spotlights

      In 2023, the FamilySearch blog featured many different genealogists’ stories. These stories were as varied as they were inspiring. Here are a few for you to consider!

      In 2023, Treehouse Talks at the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake featured Ricardo León Coronado, Carter Denos, and Natalia Soto Cerna. These 3 young adults shared the story of their ancestors and the impact genealogy had on their lives.
      Ric Murphy is an acclaimed educator, historian, scholar, lecturer, documentarian, and author. His research into his own family history has led to several discoveries that have had a larger impact, guiding the research of many others.
      Although she didn’t start library service with the skills she now touts, Chihiro Harper is now one of the most skilled FamilySearch Research consultants around. She’s able to help library visitors translate records in Japanese, German, Swiss, and more.

      RootsTech 2023

      RootsTech 2023 was an incredible success, with over 3 million attendees, and it included such keynote speakers as Sean Astin, Me Ra Koh, and His Highness Sheikh Salem bin Sultan bin Saqr Al-Qasimi. Their keynote addresses, as well as others, are still available to view online to view or share!
