Col. John Catlett immigrated in 1650 to Rappahannock County, Virginia (now Essex County) from Sittingbourne, Kent, England. With him was his son, Nicholas Catlett and half-brothers Ralph and Edward Rowzie. He was followed later by his son, Thomas Catlett. He married (2) Elizabeth Underwood, widow of Col. Francis Slaughter. They had four children. He was killed by Indians while defending the fort at Port Royal in 1670. Descendants lived in Virginia, Illinois, Louisiana, Kentucky and elsewhere.

Thomas Baytop, son of Thomas Baytop and his wife, ______ Pell, of Kent County, England, married Hannah _______ and moved to Staplehurst, Kent, England, where his son Thomas was born in 1676. He immigrated to Virginia in 1679 and invested in plantations, merchandise, stock, etc. He died in 1691. Descendants lived in Virginia, Louisiana, Texas and elsewhere.
