References are made to the Virginia Half Pay claims as well as to other state pensions and state bounty land warrants as shown in the National Archives microcopies"--Introd. v. 4. Index. The library has the National Archives microfilms (M804) also used in preparing these abstracts. See entry in the Author/Title catalog: United States. Veterans Administration. Revolutionary War pension and bounty-land warrent files or in the Locality Catalog under: United States - Military Records - Revolution, 1775-1783 - Pensions.

"These genealogical abstracts were obtained from the National Archives microfilm publication, 'Selected Records from the Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application Files' series M805. This series contains most of the genealogical data contained in the Revolutionary War Pension & Bounty Land Warrant Application Files. In series M805 a large percentage of the entries will contain ten or fewer pages and from the larger files only records of significant genealogical value were microfilmed. Some of the entries were supplemented with additional data which was obtained from the National Archives microfilm series M804 which contains microcopies of the entire file on each claimant who filed for pension or bounty land based on service in the Revolutionary War"--Introd.
"Included in these abstracts are cross-references to the Virginia Half Pay Claims. There are also references to other state pensions or bounty land awarded for service in the Revolutionary War which may give the amount of pension paid & the date pension was commenced and the state bounty land reference may show the number of acres awarded as well as the number of the state warrant. The information available for the disability pensions granted prior to 1814 and the bounty land applications prior to 1814 is rather limited due to the fire in the War Office in 1800 and when the British burned Washington, D.C. in 1814. These entries may contain veteran's service data, when and how he was disabled, where he lived, amount of pension and date of commencement, date of death or final pay voucher and various other data"--Introd.
