Chiefly ancestors, with their families, of the author's parents, Alexander Hamilton and Cynthia Springs Dinkins, and their descendants. Alexander Hamilton Dinkins (1815-1870) was born in Mecklinburg County, North Carolina, the son of James Dinkins (1772-1825), a soldier in the War of 1812, and Lucy Kendrick Dinkins (1775-1849). He married Cynthia Springs in 1842 in Mcklenburg County. After their marriage they settled in Madison County, Mississippi. They had six children, 1845-1857. Cynthia Springs (1822-1872) was born in Mecklinburg, North Carolina, the daughter of William Polk Springs (1790-1829) and Margaret Polk Springs Springs (1796-1871). Alexander the Cynthia Dinkins died in Madison County. Children and grandchildren lived in Mississippi and elsewhere.
Ancestors include: John Dinkins (m. 1751), a soldier in the Revolutionary War of Mceklenburg County, North Carolina -- John Kendrick (1670-1715) of Gloucester County, Virginia -- John Springs (1717-ca. 1789) of Long Island, New York; New Dover, Delaware; Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and Mecklenburg County, North Carolina -- Col. Adam Alexander (1728-1798) of Maryland and Meclenburg County, North Carolina.
