James Green (ca. 1760-ca. 1821), a Revolutionary War soldier, was probably born in North Carolina, one of the sons of "Patriarch" Green. He married Sarah Hix (d. 1846) in North Carolina, ca. 1785. They had fourteen children, 1787-ca. 1812. The family migrated to Tennessee before 1800 and migrated from Knox County, Tennessee to Madison County, Illinois, in 1811. They moved to Bond County, Illinois, ca. 1815. He died in Bond County. Descendants lived in Illinois, Missouri and elsewhere.

Includes the Birge, Costley, Drake, Durham, Dycus, Higginbotham, Howland, Jones, Kersher, McAdams, McClelland, Joins, Matthews, Nowlin, Perry, Rape, Reavis, Reed, Snell, Turney, and other allied families.

Also includes a sketch of the Hix family and a sketch of the brothers and sisters of James Green.
