Fino al 1810 fu conosciuto Moniga. Nel 1810 venne aggregato al comune di Padenghe con Maguzzano (ora Padenghe sul Garda). Venne ricostituito in comune autonomo nel 1816 con il toponimo Moniga del Lago e nel 1859 il toponimo cambiò in Monigal del Garda. Dal 1927-1947 venne aggegato ancora a Padenghe e nel 1947 venne ricostituito il comune autonomo di Moniga del Garda, disaggregandone il territorio dal comune di Padenghe. Until 1910 the town was known as Moniga. In 1810 it was annexed to the municipality of Padenghe con Maguzzano (now Padenghe sul Garda). It regained its autonomous status in 1816 and the name changed to Moniga del Lago and in 1859 the name was changed again to Moniga del Garda.
