Benjamin Cooley settled in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1645. He was a town officer for many terms. He and his wife, Sarah (d. 1684) had nine children. Descendants lived in Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and elsewhere.
James Barbour, emigrant from Scotland in the 17th century, settled in King and Queen County or Gloucester County, Virginia. He married Miss Taliaferro of Gloucester County. They had a son James (1678-1775) who married (1) Elizabeth Todd and (2) Sarah Todd and had eight children. Descendants lived in Virginia and elsewhere.
Includes the Bolton, Taliaferro, Colton, Roy, Snodgrass and other ancestral families of the author and allied families.
