Is the Family History Department destroying records?

The Family History Department and the Genealogical Society of Utah are not destroying genealogical records and have no plans to do so. 

To broaden access and preserve the data in the original records, the family group records that were kept on the fourth floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building were microfilmed. These films are in the FamilySearch Library. The books and other materials that were on the fourth floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building were likewise moved to the FamilySearch Library, where they are available to researchers.
