How do I search the Pedigree Resource File and other genealogies?

The Genealogies section of the FamilySearch website contains records from multiple databases:

  • Community Trees
  • Oral Genealogies
  • Computer-Generated Trees
  • Guild of One-Name Studies
  • Partner Trees
  • Pedigree Resource File (PRF)
  • Ancestral File (AF)
  • International Genealogical Index (IGI)

For more information about each record set, visit the FamilySearch Wiki.

  7. In the search box, click the down arrow.
  8. Click a collection and then click Search.
  9. Your search results appear. The closest matches appear at the top of the list.
  10. If the search yields too many results, refine your search.
    • At the top of the Results, click a filter bubble. Options include: Collection, Sex, Birth, Marriage, Death, Other, and Residence.
    • On the right panel, you can modify your search terms.
    • To update your search, click Search again.
    • To clear all of the search fields, click Reset.
  11. Click the name that interests you.

Note: In addition, you can search by Submission ID or Ancestral File Number. On the right panel, find Add Record Options. Click either Submission ID or Ancestral File Number, and enter the information.
