How do I edit or delete person tags in Memories?

Share

In Family Tree, if a memory item is tagged to the wrong person, you can edit or delete the tag.

Summary

  • If you uploaded the memory, you can delete a tag.
  • If someone else uploaded the memory, you can only detach a tag from a memory.
  • You cannot resize, reposition, and rename tags unless you created the tag.

If you attempt to edit a tag and do not see the options for editing and deleting it, consider the following:

  • You did not create the tag.
  • You are signed in as a helper, and the person you are helping did not create the tag. Sign out as a helper.
  • You created the tag while signed in to help someone else. To edit the tag, you must either have the person you were helping edit the tag or sign in to help that person again.

Steps (website)

  1. On FamilySearch.org, sign in and click Memories.
  2. In the drop-down menu, click Gallery.
  3. Click the photo or document with the tag that you want to edit or delete.
  4. To the right of the memory, click the information "i" icon at the top of the side panel.
  5. In the Tagged People field, click the settings (gear) icon beside the name of the tagged person to do any of the following:
    1. Attach memory to another tree
      1. Click Attach to Another Tree.
      2. If the person appears in several of your family trees (including the FamilySearch Family Tree and Family Group Trees), each tree's version appears. Click the name of the person in the version that you want to tag.
      3. Click Tag Selected at the bottom of the field.
    2. Detach memory from a person:
      1. Locate the paperclip icon to the right of the person's name. It has a slash through it, and when you hover over the icon, it says "Detach this tag".
      2. Click the paperclip icon.
      3. A field appears that says, "Detach this Memory?". You can enter a reason for detaching the memory into the text field, then click Detach.
    3. Move or Resize this Tag:
      1. To make the tag larger or smaller, click the blue circle at the bottom right of the field around the person's face, and drag it to the correct size.
      2. To reposition the tag, click in the field, and drag it to the desired position.
      3. Click the green checkmark to save the change, or the red Cancel button to undo the change.
    4. Delete this Tag:
      1. Click Delete
    5. If the name on the tag is spelled incorrectly, delete the name tag and create a new one.
