How do I edit a portrait photo in Family Tree?

When a person in Family Tree already has a portrait photo, you can make it bigger, show a different part of the photo. All users will see the changes you make to the portrait photo.

Steps (website)

You can edit portraits from the Family Tree section of FamilySearch.org. You cannot currently do that from the Memories section.

  1. In Family Tree on the FamilySearch.org website, display the person page.
  2. Click the current portrait.
  3. Click Edit Portrait.
  4. Adjust the portrait so that it displays as you want it:
    • Use the slider bar to adjust the photo's size.
    • Drag the photo until the part you want to use is in the circle.
  5. Click Save as Portrait.
  6. Enter a reason statement to explain why you changed the person’s portrait.
  7. Click Save.

Steps (Family Tree mobile app)

You can use the Family Tree mobile app to edit portrait photos. You cannot use the Memories mobile app.
 

  1. In the Family Tree mobile app, display the person page.
  2. Tap the current portrait.
  3. Tap Edit Portrait.
  4. Adjust the portrait so that it displays as you want it:
    • Use the green dot to adjust the tag's size.
    • Drag the tag until it covers the part of the photo that you want to use.
  5. Tap Save.

Steps (Family Tree Lite)

Family Tree Lite does not currently use portrait photos.
