Read All About It: How Newspaper Indexes are Changing Genealogy

Gone are the days of endlessly paging through microfilm in the hopes of finding your ancestor in historical newspapers. Thanks to leaps in artificial intelligence, Ancestry.com and MyHeritage each have new (and growing) indexes of digitized newspapers. In them are billions of names—each representing a potential match for your ancestors.

How can you find articles relevant to your research? In this session, you’ll learn how to search the indexes at Ancestry.com and MyHeritage, then mine scanned newspapers images for genealogical clues. Case studies will demonstrate how you can build out your family tree using newspaper indexes, plus use newspapers as stepping stones to find even more records. You'll also get an overview of the major historical newspaper websites and how they can help your research.
