In Family Tree, you can only add a first ancestor with the First Ancestor View.
The first ancestor pedigree view allows you to add more than one first ancestor to your profile.
On the First Ancestor view, a person can have more than one first ancestor. You can easily display a different first ancestor as needed.
In the First Ancestor view, the person of focus should have at least one first ancestor. You can remove a first ancestor if the wrong person is listed.
If you use the First Ancestor view, we recommend that you add your first ancestor as one of the first things you do. If you have more than first ancestor, you can enter them all and switch between them as needed.

On the First Ancestor view, the yellow path that connects the first ancestor to the person of focus is called the "clan path." You can correct the clan path.

The message, "These generations do not connect through a patrilineal line," appears for one of two reasons.
The First Ancestor view was designed to help people with Chinese or any clan ancestry enter their genealogy books (jiapu) into Family Tree.
You can easily change the person of focus on Family Tree’s First Ancestor view from a person’s pop-up menu.
In Family Tree, use the First Ancestor view to enter and display Chinese clan genealogies from jiapu records. This view screen is also useful for cultures that calculate tribal, clan, and other family affiliations using a similar of direct, paternal relationship.
