Records of infants are recorded in many ways. This includes government records, christenings, and baptisms. Watch this video to see how to search for a birth record.

Step-by-step instructions

To search for a birth record, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the search function and select Records.
  2. Enter the child's name and place of birth in the appropriate fields.
  3. Click More Options and add a range of years.
  4. Click the Father and Mother buttons, and enter the parents' names.
    • If necessary, try different variations of the parents' first or last names or search for one parent at a time.
  5. Click the Type button and select Birth, Baptism, Christening to filter the search for birth and infant records.
  6. Scroll down and click Search.
    • Family Search will generate a list of all the birth records that match your search criteria. If you don't find what you're looking for, try broadening your search parameters.
  7. Click the summary of the record you want to view.
  8. On the left, you can view the record. On the right, you can save, edit, share, or attach it to Family Tree.
