If you find more than one record about yourself in Family Tree, you can merge them if the following conditions are met:
- The duplicate records are both visible only to you.
- The duplicate records are both on your Private People list.
- The record that survives the merge is your main record in Family Tree. (You do not need to worry too much about this. The merge screen will prompt you to switch the records if this is a problem).
You cannot merge duplicate records about yourself under these circumstances:
- The duplicates are visible only to another FamilySearch user.
- The duplicate records are on another user's Private People list.
- The duplicate is marked as deceased. If you find a record that shows you are deceased, change the status to living. This prevents other users from being able to see your record in Family Tree. If the duplicate ends up being visible only to you, you can then merge it.
