If a living person in your tree dies, you can enter death information. If you cannot find the living person that you added by navigating in Family Tree, search your list of private people.
Steps (website)
- In Family Tree, find the person by doing one of the following:
- Navigate to the person in the tree.
- Open the Private People list. Click My Contributions, and then click Private People. Enter the person's name in the Search field.
- Click the person's name.
- In the details that pop up, click the person's name again.
- In the Vitals section, in the Death section, click the Edit icon .
- Click Edit.
- Click in the circle next to Deceased.
- Enter the date and place of death and the reason that the information is correct.
- Click Save.
Steps (mobile app)
- In Family Tree, find the person:
- Navigate to the person in the tree.
- Tap the 3 lines icon—upper left on Android; lower right on iOS. Open the Private Persons list. Tap the three lines or dots. Tap My Contributions, and then tap Private Persons.
- Tap the name.
- In the Vitals section, tap Death.
- Tap Deceased.
- Enter the date and place of death and the reason that the information is correct.
- Tap Save.
Steps (Family Tree Lite)
- In Family Tree Lite (lite.fs.org), navigate to the person page in Family Tree.
- In the Vitals section, under Death, click Add.
- Click in the circle beside deceased.
- Enter the date and place of death and the reason that the information is correct.
- Click Save.
Results
- The deceased person has 1 record in Family Tree.
- Except for memories you mark as Private, all memories and sources about the person are visible.
- The person's record becomes public. Now you can use the find feature to find the record.
- You can merge the record with other records about this person in Family Tree.
