What is the difference between a contributing library and an affiliate library?

Contributing libraries give FamilySearch permission to post their digitized online books in the FamilySearch Digital Library. Learn about our Contributing Libraries.

Affiliate libraries have an agreement with FamilySearch that allows their users access to certain digitized microfilms on the FamilySearch website. When you click to view a digital image, you could see a message that you can view it at an affiliate library. You can use the FamilySearch Center Locator to find an affiliate library. The libraries show on the search results map with an orange book icon.

Some libraries are both contributing libraries and affiliates.
