What is the Availability section in the Catalog?

When searching the Catalog on FamilySearch, use the Availability section to add additional filters to your search results.

Steps (website)

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch
  2. At the top of the page, click Search.
  3. Click Catalog.
  4. Enter your search terms.
  5. Directly above the Search button is the Availability section. The default is to search Any. You see all items that meet your search terms: microfiche, digitized content, restricted digitized content, books, and CDs.
  6. To limit your search results, click Online or FamilySearch Center.

Online

Search our growing collection of digitized content. Not all of it is available for online viewing. Some content is only available at a FamilySearch center.

FamilySearch Center

The option allows you to choose from a list of FamilySearch centers.

  1. To the right of FamilySearch Library, click the down arrow.
  2. An alphabetical list of FamilySearch centers and affiliate organizations appears.
  3. Begin to type the name of a center. The list jumps to that section.
  4. Click the name of a center. You see only materials housed at that location in your search results.

The search results for a FamilySearch center are not always accurate. Contact the center before you visit to verify that they still have the microfilm you want.
