Why would a memory no longer be available?

Share

Here’s the scenario. You receive an invitation through FamilySearch to view a photograph or other memory of an ancestor. But when you follow the link, you see an error message that says the memory is no longer available.

What happened?

Memories become unavailable for one of three reasons:

  • The person who uploaded the memory went back and deleted it.
  • The person who uploaded the memory went back and marked it as private. Now he or she is the only person who can view it.
  • The memory contains something that contradicts FamilySearch’s Guidelines and Policies. Our review software recognized the violation and restricted the memory.

Not being able to view a memory is certainly frustrating. If this happens, consider going to the ancestor’s Memory Gallery and exploring the other memories you might find there.
