Labels help you remember why you put a person from Family Tree on your Following list. After you apply labels, you can filter your Following lists to a specific group of people for research or review. You can use one of several predefined labels or create a custom one to suit your own needs.
Add labels (website)
- Sign in to FamilySearch and click Family Tree.
- Click Following.
- If your Following list does not show the people that you followed, click Options, and change the filtering and sorting.
- From the Following list, click the ellipsis (3 vertical dots) to the right of the person's name.
- Click Add Label.
- Click a label on the list.
- If you do not see a label that you want to use, click Create new label. You can create up to 10 labels. Your custom labels are private—others cannot see them.
- Enter a label title. The label can have up to 20 characters. All characters are allowed, including emojis.
- Click Create Label.
- The new label is now at the bottom of the Select Label window. Click the new label to attach it to the person.
Edit labels (website)
- Under a person's name in your Following list, click the label.
- Click Edit Label. Note: To only edit the notes, make the desired edits and click Save Label.
- Click the label.
- To switch the label to a different one, click a label on the list and click Savel Label. Or, to edit a label you created, click the pencil icon to the right of the label.
- Edit the Label title.
- Click Save Label.
Sort by labels (website)
- At the top of the list, click Options. Options open in a panel on the right.
- In the Filter by Label section, click the label you want.
Remove a label (website)
- Under a person's name in your Following list, click the label.
- Click Remove.
- On the card asking if you are sure, click Remove.
