How do I find the citation for a historical record?

Historical records provide citation information.

Steps (website)

From Search Historical Records

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.org.
  2. At the top of any FamilySearch page, click Search.
  3. From the drop-down menu, click Records.
  4. Enter search terms and click Search.
  5. Click the page icon to the right of the record that interests you.
  6. The Cite this Record section provides a citation.

From Explore Historical Images

  1. Sign in to FamilySearch.org.
  2. At the top of any FamilySearch page, click Search.
  3. From the drop-down menu, click Images.
  4. Enter search terms and click Search.
  5. Click an item in the search results to open the collection of images.
  6. In the information panel on the right, scroll down to find the citation.
  7. Click the copy icon (two papers) to copy the citation.

Steps (mobile app)

  1. Open the FamilySearch Family Tree app.
  2. Tap the 3 lines icon.
  3. Tap Search Historical Records.
  4. Enter search terms and tap Search.
  5. Tap the paper icon for a record of interest.
  6. Cite this Record contains a citation.
