How do I edit a portrait photo in Family Tree?

When a person in Family Tree already has a portrait photo, you can make it bigger and show a different part of the photo. All users see your changes.

Steps (website)

You can edit portraits from the Family Tree section of FamilySearch.org.

  1. In Family Tree on the FamilySearch.org website, display the person page.
  2. Click the current portrait.
  3. Click the Photo tab.
  4. Click a photo.
    1. Drag the photo to reposition the portrait portion.
    2. In the top-right portion of the screen, use the buttons to adjust the size and orientation.
  5. Click Save.

Steps (Family Tree mobile app)

You can use the Family Tree mobile app to edit portrait photos.
 

  1. In the Family Tree mobile app, display the person page.
  2. Tap the current portrait.
  3. Tap the pencil icon. If you do not see the pencil icon, tap in the portrait image. The icon appears on the right.
  4. Tap Edit Portrait.
  5. Adjust the portrait:
    • Use the green dot to adjust the tag's size.
    • Drag the tag until it covers the part of the photo that you want to use.
  6. Tap Save.

Steps (Family Tree Lite)

Family Tree Lite does not use portrait photos.
