FamilySearch provides a way for you to share stories about your family.
Before you start
- Review guidelines. Carefully read the Submission Agreement for content policies.
- Remember to save your work. The system times out after an hour. To avoid losing your work, save your story before leaving your computer or mobile device.
- Drag and drop does not work for uploading stories.
- You cannot upload PDF files into the Stories feature. Load PDF files as Documents.
Steps (website)
You can upload memories from both the Memories section and the Family Tree.
Create a story from the Memories section:
- Sign in to FamilySearch.
- At the top of the screen, click Memories.
- From the drop-down menu, click Gallery.
- Click Add Memories.
- From the drop-down menu, click Write a Story.
- Click Add Image to upload up to 10 images.
- Upload files: Drag and drop images, select files, or add from Google. You may also upload a memory directly from your Gallery.
- Enter the story title, story, place, and date.
- Click Next.
- Choose the visibility setting.
- Make Public: Use this setting for most memories. Then, click Done.
- Make Private: Use this setting for sensitive memories that should only be viewed by a limited audience. Click Save Visibility. You may add groups who may also view the Memory. Then, click Done.
You can edit your saved story at any time. Open the story. At the top of the page, just above the story's title, click Edit.
Create a story from Family Tree:
- Sign in to FamilySearch.
- At the top of the page, click Family Tree.
- From the drop-down menu, click Tree.
- Click on the profile of the individual you would like to add a memory to.
- From the panel on the right, click Memories.
- Click Add Memories.
- From the drop-down menu, click Write a Story.
- Click Add Image to upload up to 10 images.
- Upload files: Drag and drop images, select files, or add from Google. You may also upload a memory directly from your Gallery.
- Click Next.
- Choose the visibility setting.
- Make Public: Use this setting for most memories. Then, click Done.
- Make Private: Use this setting for sensitive memories that should only be viewed by a limited audience. Click Save Visibility. You may add groups who may also view the Memory. Then, click Done.

Steps (mobile app)
You can add stories from the Memories or the Family Tree mobile app.
Memories app
- Tap the plus sign (+) in the lower right.
- Tap Write Story.
- Enter your story title and story content.
- Tap the camera icon, and add photos.
- Apple iOS: Tap an option. Take Photo allows you to capture an image with your device. Camera Roll lets you choose up to 10 images from your device. My Files lets you choose items in your saved files. My FamilySearch Gallery lets you add items already in Memories. Make your choice and tap Upload. To add more, tap the plus sign (+) beneath the original photos.
- Android: To choose a photo on your device, tap File. Camera allows you to capture a photo with your device. Tap FamilySearch Gallery and attach photos already in Memories. Make your selection and tap Upload. To add more photos, tap the plus sign (+) beneath the original photos.
- Tap Save in the upper right corner to save your story to your Memories.
- To edit your story, tap on the story to open. Tap the three dots in the upper right corner. Then, tap Edit.
Family Tree app
- Navigate to an individual on the tree.
- Tap Memories.
- Tap the plus sign (+) in the lower right.
- Tap Write Story.
- Enter your story title and story content.
- Tap the camera icon, and add photos.

Family Tree Lite
Family Tree Lite does not include the Memories feature.
