How do I filter my source box?

Filter your source box to find a group of related sources you want to use. Filtering is helpful if your source box contains many items.

Tip: Filter your source box and then enter search terms to narrow the list of sources even further.

Steps (website)

  1. While signed into FamilySearch, click your name.
  2. Click Source Box.
  3. Click Filter.
  4. Click the source types that do not want to include.
    • FamilySearch: Historical records from FamilySearch.
    • User Created: A source whose citation was typed into FamilySearch.
    • Memory: A photo, story, document, or audio file that was added to FamilySearch and used as a source.
  5. To filter by date, follow these steps:
    1. Click Date Range.
    2. Enter the earliest and latest years.
    3. Click Search.
  6. To turn off the date filter and display sources without dates, click Sources With No Dates.

The source box shows the sources that match the filters you selected.
