How do I approve join requests for a family group?

Everyone who clicks an invite link to join a group must be approved before they can participate in the group. Group administrators approve join requests.

If you have sent an invite link out, we recommend that you check the group regularly to approve or deny join requests.

Tip: If the group has a tree, add the people being invited to the group tree before sending the invitations to join the group.

Steps (website)

  1. On FamilySearch.org, click your name.
  2. Select Family Groups.
  3. Click View Group.
  4. Click Group Members.
  5. Find the person waiting to be approved. This shows up between the Getting Started section and the group feed.
  6. Click Approve.

Steps (mobile app)

  1. In the Family Tree mobile app, tap the 3 lines icon to open the Family Groups feature:
    • Apple iOS—lower right
    • Android—upper left
  2. Tap Family Groups.
  3. Find a group for which you are administrator and tap View Group.
  4. Find the person waiting to be approved.
  5. Tap Approve.
  6. Tap Approve again.
