Starting in 2023, you may see an error message when you try to reserve ordinances for someone who has a "Problem with Name Language" data problem on their person page in the Family Tree.
You may see the same error when printing cards for current reservations or preparing to take a name to the temple if the person's page has the same error. In both cases, the "Problem with Name Language" is simple to fix. Here's how:
- If you are not on the person's page in the Family Tree already, click on the name to get there. Then navigate to the Details tab, and click on the pencil next to the name.
- While editing the name, look at what writing script is used, and make sure the language template setting for the name matches the script. For example, if you entered Chinese characters for a name in the Family Tree but left the language template set to English or any other language, you would need to change the language template to fix the mismatch.
Note: When the language template is changed, you may need to move a name to the correct field for its script. Some language templates have multiple writing script options. - If the error still appears, FamilySearch might also be detecting that there are multiple writing systems being used in one name field. Check each field to see if all the characters in the field match the designated writing system, and fix the characters as needed. When the correct language setting is selected, you should be able to see options for adding transcriptions of the name if desired.
Fixing this error helps the printed ordinance card to show the person's name correctly. It can also allow the system to show transliterated versions of the name. See the screenshot below for an example.
