Guidelines:
- Ordinances that you reserve using the Ordinances Ready feature generally expire in 120 days and cannot be extended.
- Ordinances that you reserve in Family Tree generally expire in 2 years and are subject to an extension as noted below.
- To see when the ordinances you have reserved expire, go to your temple reservation list on the FamilySearch.org website or in the Family Tree mobile app.
Note: When a person shares an ancestor's ordinances with the temple, those ordinances are available for other descendants to reserve. This second reservation expires in 120 days and cannot be shared. It can only be unreserved. After 120 days, the ordinance is returned to the temple, and the person who originally shared the ordinance has the option to unshare it.
Expiration extensions
Expiration dates get extended automatically by 1 year when 1 or more of the reserved ordinances is completed within the original 2-year reservation. The ordinance of sealing-to-spouse is a separate reservation, however, and is not connected to any of the other reservations you may hold for a particular ancestor.
Completing an ordinance such as initiatory or endowment will not extend your reservation for the sealing.
Names shared with the temple
Ordinances shared with the temple do not expire as long as they remain shared with the temple.
Names shared with family groups
Ordinances shared with a family group will expire as follows:
- The person who reserves the ordinance and shares it with the group has 2 years to complete the ordinances.
- The person who reserves the ordinance from the group has 120 days to print the card.
Check your reservation list to see the expiration date of each name.
Names shared with family and friends
Sharing ordinances with family or friends does not reset the ordinance expiration date.
Receiving notifications about expiring reservations
Three weeks before the reservation expires, you will receive a FamilySearch message telling you about the upcoming expiration. You will receive another message after the reservation has expired. You can use the information in the notification to find the person in Family Tree and re-reserve the ordinances as long as they are still available.
