Probate records concerning real estate sales, 1859-1904

The administrator of a will or guardian of a minor heir may have been required to sale land to pay debts of the deceased. In the case of minors, it was considered wiser to invest the value of the land (often in trust) than to keep the tax liable land. The administrators/guardians were required to take such matters to the probate court when acting on matters created by the administration of a will.

Includes administrator's records: petition for license to sell, license, oath before sale, report of sale, affidavit of publication of notice and confirmation of sale. In cases where minors owned the land, their guardian acted as administrator.
