"The inhabitants of Windsor east of the Connecticut River were given liberty to embody in church estate May 1696, making this the East Windsor or Second Society in Windsor. A part was set off as Windsor North or Fourth Society May 1752. A part was set off as part of North Bolton Society, October 1760. Part of Windsor including this society was incorporated May 1768 as East Windsor. Part of East Windsor including this society was incorporated May 1845 as South Windsor. The name was formally changed from East Windsor to South Windsor Society, May 1846.".
