Chiefly, a collection of diary entries, speeches, and a biographical sketch of the life of Dr. James Theodore Reeve who was born on 26 April 26, 1834 in Walkil, near Goshen, Orange County, New York. He was the son of Daniel and Mary Valentine Reeve. On November 26, 1857 he married Laura Spofford. She was the daughter of Uriah Gage Spofford and Mary Perkins. James and Laura had six children. James served as Assistant Surgeon and Surgeon, Brigade Surgeon, and Chief Surgeon of a Division during the U.S. Civil War, from September 18, 1861 to June 8, 1865. He served in the 10th and 21st Regiments in the Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He was also in prison for several months in Richmond, Virginia in 1863. After the Civil War, he relocated to Appleton, Wisconsin and started a family practice. Over the years, he served on many boards of local institutions, and made many generous contributions to the community. He died on November 6, 1906 and is buried in the Riverside Cemetery in Appleton, Wisconsin.
